About Us


Jamie Dickenson, LLC is owned and operated in Charleston, West Virginia. While our services include educational planning and providing academic support to a growing number of students, our goal  is to treat every customer with respect and adopt them into the Jamie Dickenson, LLC family. Our individualized approach is something we take pride in and gives us an edge when compared to similar services.

 

Jamie Dickenson started her educational consulting practice in 1998 and has helped thousands of families through the college admissions and financial aid process. Jamie's dedication, energy, and enthusiasm have contributed to the growth of her business and the success of many life changing decisions she's helped her students make.  In 2011, she decided to expand her business to include a tutoring center so that she could help her students lay a solid foundation for a positive academic career. 

 

It is our mission to provide educational support and guidance for students by communicating with them and motivating them as they transition from high school to college. Jamie is proud that her staff is preparing students for academic challenges by providing a customized learning experience that will help them successfully overcome high school’s hurdles and progress to college. Students work through their academic weaknesses and discover what they love and are good at doing, all in a safe and secure environment.

Jamie Dickenson is considered a leading authority in educational consulting. She is a speaker, radio talk show host, trainer, and business coach.  She also authored the book, "Too Smart for the Ivy League," offering her advice on how to give your student the best college education for the least amount of money.
 
Jamie grew up in Logan, West Virginia. She attended Marshall University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration majoring in accounting and a Masters degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance.
 

After college, she spent 15 years as an accountant working her way to Chief Financial Officer of a major coal company. She then became a Registered Representative for a national financial services company where she worked for 5 years.

 

Jamie started her educational consulting practice in 1998 and became a Certified Educational Planner. She has helped thousands of families through the college admissions and financial aid process. Jamie's dedication, energy, and enthusiasm have contributed to the growth of her business and the success of many life changing decisions she's helped her students make. In 2011, she decided to expand her business to include a tutoring center so that she could help her students lay a solid foundation for a positive academic career.

 

Jamie was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Upstate New York and was featured as a Success Story for the West Virginia District of the Small Business Association (SBA).

 

Jamie has delivered over 150 business and motivational presentations for corporations, schools, colleges, associations, and business meetings. She is one of the most in-demand speakers and business consultants specializing in the areas of college admissions and financial aid.

 

For 13 years, Jamie was a guest speaker on a very successful talk radio show called "Ask the Expert" on WCHS 580 AM. She has been featured in the media on numerous radio and television shows as well as being quoted in feature articles.

 

Jamie is a 500 hour yoga teacher and owner of Yoga Power, LLC.  She loves to practice yoga in Charleston and anywhere she travels.

Kayla is a graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and was one of Jamie's kids.  She graduated from Denison University with a degree in computer science.
 
Jessie Bowlin is a senior at West Virginia State University. In May of 2018, she receive two degrees: Bachelors of Chemistry and Bachelors of Chemistry Education. After graduation, she plans to teach chemistry at the secondary level.
 
She would also like to obtain a certification in general science and AP chemistry. After gaining experience, she wants to achieve a Master’s of Science in Chemistry Education. She has been a math and science tutor for five years. She was a teacher for the Math Science and Classic Upward Bound Program. Her experiences with this program developed her true love for teaching.
 
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son, hiking, baking, and crafting. She also works with the American Chemical Society student organization to complete volunteer work on campus and in local communities.
 
Jessie believes that all students can learn. It is her mission to meet the needs of all students through differentiated instruction, as well as break the barriers of prejudice, bias, and discrimination. It is also her mission to shape her students to become the future leaders of the tomorrow.
Katy has been a lifelong resident of South Charleston, WV where she graduated South Charleston High School, a recipient of the International Baccalaureate Degree.
 
She then attended Smith College where she majored in Environmental Science and Policy and minored in Chemistry. She earned her Master’s Degree in Environmental Science in Graduate School at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where she focused on swine waste analysis.
 
In her spare time, Katy loves to go hiking with her two golden retrievers, Max and Calmit.
Lexi is a graduate of Capital High School and was one of Jamie's kids.  She graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Psychology.  
 
She will be pursuing her Masters degree within the next year.
Deanna is a graduate of St. Albans High School and a student at West Virginia State University working toward a degree in accounting.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son and gardening. 
Anne is a 2007 graduate of Capital High School. She and her family utilized Jamie's services when she was in high school. Anne was awarded a full academic scholarship to Concord University, from where she graduated summa cum laude in 2011. She earned the Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Marshall University in 2014.
 

Anne is in her seventh year of teaching full-time. She teaches Spanish and AP Human Geography at Herbert Hoover High School.

Anne lives in South Charleston and enjoys traveling.

Krista is a graduate from Saint Albans High School Class of 2002. She attended West Virginia University.
 
She has a knack for computer software and a love for organization.  While Krista has many interests, she loves sports, cooking and helping people reach their goals.
 
Krista currently lives in South Charleston with her husband, Matt, and their sons, Eli and Nolan.

April hails from mid-Michigan where she nurtured her love for both mathematics and foreign languages. She graduated from the Flint Community School District in 2011 and has attended college in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics.

 

Since joining Jamie’s team, April has revisited her educational approach. Her long-term goals include traveling the Eastern Hemisphere as a teacher of math and English as a second language. She wants to improve her fluency in Spanish, American Sign Language, and Japanese before moving on to other languages like Malay and Mandarin Chinese.

 

She enjoys costume design and choreographed dance in her spare time. 


Rajveer is  currently a second year Pharmacy Student at University of Charleston, originally from New York. She has been tutoring for about 4 years now, ranging from first grade to 12th grade. She loves helping out in any subject that she can and making sure the student understands the material. Aside from school, Rajveer enjoys traveling and trying different types of food, even as a vegetarian! She hopes to be able to make a difference in someone's life, whether it's through pharmacy or tutoring!
Rachel is from Williamstown, WV. She graduated as valedictorian from Wood County Christian School in 2015 and and received the Adolph and Edith E. Harris Tippens Scholarship. Rachel is currently second year pharmacy student at the University of Charleston and her interests include traveling, being outdoors, food, and dogs. 
After retiring from the banking industry with 35 years of Banking and Financial  experience, Debbie joined Jamie Dickenson in 2005.

She grew up in Teays Valley, and attended Hurricane High School. After graduation, she completed courses relevant to her Banking career through American Institute of Bankers at WV State College.

She currently lives in Charleston with her husband, Mike. They have two wonderful daughters who have blessed them with two little grandsons.

Lisha graduated from Marshall University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After a long and hard road trying to determine what to do with her degree, she entered Marshall University’s School Psychology program. This program prepares it's students to work in the school setting providing various services for children with disabilities, mental health issues, and behavior issues.
 
In 2015, she graduated with her Master of Arts in Psychology. In 2016, she graduated with her Education Specialist degree in School Psychology after completing a year-long internship at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind and defending her thesis, which analyzed reading research in deaf education journals.

She currently works at Appalachian Council Head Start as an Education Specialist/School Psychologist. At this job, she oversees mental health screenings, special education, disability services, supervision teachers and aides, as well as working as a behavior specialist for head start organizations across 11 counties in West Virginia.

She lives in Charleston with her husband, three rescue dogs, and two cats. In her spare time, she loves rock climbing, running, hiking, and practicing yoga.
