Jamie, You planted a seed 5 years ago about Wake Forest being the right fit for me. While I chose West Virginia Wesleyan as my undergraduate school, I just wanted to let you know that I just made my deposit with Wake Forest University School of Law for the upcoming fall semester. I just wanted to let you know and say thanks for steering me in that direction! Thanks again, Brandon Kroll Jamie Dickenson alum, Class of 2012. -We are so proud of you, Brandon!

Tori Konrad sent us a note letting us know she has recently been accepted to one of the sororities at Mercer University. She is even sorority sisters with another one of our students, Emma Grose! You go girls!

Emily Perdue has been admitted to the PhD program in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University! She intends to focus her degree on International Agriculture Development. Emily was a 2006 graduate of Nitro High School, and received her Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from West Virginia University.

Tim Carrico, 2012 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, was on WOWK 13 News on November 2, 2012 to discuss sports! He was admitted to the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University this year. We're proud of you Tim, keep up the good work!

Kady Watts, a 2012 graduate of George Washington High School, is now attending the University of South Carolina. Even though this is her freshman year at USC, Kady is very involved on campus and is already a cheerleader! We couldn't be more proud. Go Kady, and go Gamecocks!

Maureen Earley won the title of Homecoming Queen this year as a senior at Wake Forest College. Doesn't she look beautiful? Congratulations, Maureen!

Lesley Cruickshank put her pencil to the paper in the fourth annual Dan O’Hanlon Constitution Week and John Marshall Celebration Essay Contest at Marshall University and won 2nd place, earning her a $750 scholarship.
Congratulations on your scholarship, Lesley! We're proud of you!

Ben Adams Worked with Governor Mitt Romney on his Presidential  Campaign


Ben Adams, graduate of Capital High School in 2010, is currently attending Northeastern University. He worked through their co-op program with Governor Mitt Romney's campaign to coordinate events for the entire party. Way to go, Brian! We are impressed and we are excited for you!

As a junior at Wake Forest College, Kate Sams has been researching fatigue in breast cancer patients. While we are already impressed with Kate's accomplishments as a psychology student, we were even more impressed to hear that the American Society of Clinical Oncology invited her to share her research with them! Keep up the outstanding work!

Elizabeth Hensley, Class of 2010 Charleston Catholic HS, Class of 2014 Florida Institute of Technology, has a summer internship with NASA this summer. This has always been her dream job, so we are very excited for her!




Virginia_McGheeVirginia McGhee Co-Hosts George Washington High School Improv Production

Virginia McGhee, a sophomore at George Washington High School, co-hosted the first performance of her improv group, Batteries Not Included.  The first performance was titled "Holiday of Doom: The Improvening!" McGhee joined the group as a freshman, and stated in The Kanawha Valley Neighbors that the group has allowed her to become "a lot more open."  We are proud of Virginia for daring to improv, and can't wait to have our ribs tickled by her performance! Break a leg, Virginia!

Mackenizie Helmick and Alex White were spotted in the Charleston Gazette over the holidays. Both were volunteering their time to Charleston Catholic High School's annual fundraiser to help hundreds of children have a Merry Christmas. We couldn't be more proud of our students! Way to go, Mackenzie and Alex!

Ellie Reger met with Senator Rockefeller over the summer at the National Youth Leaders Conference. Ellie participated in this conference as a representative from West Virginia. She is currently a senior at Huntington High School. We are proud of you and your involvement with the National Youth Leaders Conference, Ellie!

Keegan Patrick was recognized on October 27, 2012 by the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for his outstanding achievements. Keegan has been acknowledged for a community project in which he built a ticket shelter at Winfield High School. Way to go, Keegan! Keep up the good work!

We spotted Charlie Lucente in the Charleston Gazette last Thursday, leading George Washington High School to another win in women's soccer! Charlie was noted as one of five players making up the team's backbone, contributing to the success of the team. Good luck in the state tournament this week, Charlie!

We found a photo of our own Samantha Nunley in this week's publication of Kanawha Valley Neighbors! Samantha participated in one of West Virginia Dance Company's creative workshops at the Academy of Arts at January's. We are proud of her accomplishments as an advanced student! We found Zach Driggs serving up something delicious at Mayberry's (in St. Albans) in the Kanawha Valley's  weekly publication of Neighbors! Zach was working during the grand re-opening of the restaurant. We can't wait to check out the menu! Way to go, Zach!

Schwartz, AmandaHi Jamie! Just wanted to let you know that I'm doing great at Marshall, and I LOVE being a Yeager Scholar!  It's been such a rewarding experience so far, and I know it will only get better. So I wanted to say thank you for helping me get here, and to let you know that if you have any students interested in applying for the Yeager in the next few years, please put them in contact with me!
